Ippolito Caffi
As several other painters of the XIX century, Ippolito Caffi (Belluno, 1809 - Lissa, 1866), worked recurrently on urban landscapes, which include architectures, by Michelangelo, Bernini, Palladio, etc... He was inscribed in a long line of authors, initiated by Gaspar van Wittel (Amersfoort 1655- Roma 1736) known in Italy as Gaspare Vanvitelli (not to be mixed with the architect Luigi Vanvitelli). Accurate visual precision was the keyword of the "vedutisti", van Wittel, Bellotto and Canaletto, among others.
Caffi worked in the same path, introducing elements of novelty both in terms of style, anticipating techniques later to be developed by the impressionists, and in terms of content.
