Terence Gower + Sert

This Mexico City exhibition is the second presentation of the full installation of Baghdad Case Study, originally commissioned by and conceived for Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. The installation uses the US embassy complex in Baghdad, designed by Jose Luis Sert and completed in 1960, as a platform to investigate the diplomatic devolution between the US and Iraq. As pointed out by Adam Kleinman in his Art Agenda article, the project has a particular meaning to Mexico, itself the target of past US interventions. The installation was modified slightly, all documentation now presented on a single table, plus the addition of a number of ink studies for Baghdad Screen, as well a new political chronology of twentieth century Iraq.
